Pre-game Warmup
Before the game starts, you will want to create the game file you will be using to keep the statistics. The game file will include the two teams involved in that specific game as well as all the statistics you will add during the game. In this section you will learn how to create a new game, create a team, and edit a team that has already been entered. You can start by creating a game or, more commonly, you may already know the rosters for the teams and may start by creating the teams.
Creating a Team
Before arriving at the game, you may already know the roster(s) of the team(s). You can create the team file before you ever enter the gym.
First, click on Team in the menu bar. Select New Team. Here you will see a data entry form. Enter the school’s name and the mascot, if you wish. Also select a color to represent the team’s home and visitor jersey colors. These colors will be used for buttons on the statistics page.
Enter the team roster for the team you have just created. Type or write in a player’s first name, last name, and jersey number. Click Add to place this player in the roster. You can enter as many players into the roster as you need.
If you need to edit a player’s information, you can just highlight the player by clicking on their name and re-entering the information for that player. If you decide not to edit this player but still want to add more players, click New to continue.
When you have entered all the team members for that team, select Save from the menu bar. Name the file appropriately. For example, if the North High School varsity team has just been entered, the file name could be “NorthHSVarsity.” Click OK to return to the main screen.
You may enter another team here. Once you have your teams entered, you may now create the game file.
Creating a Game
To create your game file, select Game from the menu bar. Select New Game. Enter the game information such as number of periods, length of periods (must be entered as a whole number of minutes), length of overtime, and the time and date of the game. Finally, select the home and away team by clicking on the Open button and selecting the appropriate team file. (See “Creating a Team” for entering team files) If you have not previously entered team information, you may enter it now by selecting the New button and following the directions in the “Creating a Team” section above.
When your game file is complete, click Save in the menu bar. Save the game file by naming it appropriately. For example, if the North High School varsity is playing the South High School varsity, the file name could be “NorthvsSouthVarsity.” Click OK to return to the main screen.
You will now see that roster buttons are highlighted in the team’s color, the teams’ names appear in the bottom left corner, and the clock is set with the correct number of minutes.
Under the Game menu, you may also select Save Game. This option is a quick and easy operation that allows you to be sure your valuable information does not become erased and can be accessed at a later date.
Editing a Team or a Game
To edit a team that has already been created, click Team on the menu bar and select Open Team. By selecting the team you want to edit, you can enter or edit rosters as noted above in the “Creating a Team” section.
To edit a game, click Game and select Open Game from the menu. This allows you to open a previously created game to look at stats or edit information gathered during that specific game.
