Entering the Starting Line-ups

To enter the starting line-ups for each team, select Rosters from the menu bar. Click on the team for which you would like to add players, and place a check mark by each player in the game by clicking in the box next to their name and number. If you check a box that should not be checked or have entered too many players, click the box again to deselect that player. Once the players have been answered, select OK from the menu bar to return to the main screen.

Rosters
On the main screen, the home team’s buttons will always appear on the left of the court and the visitor’s buttons appear on the right.

Setting the Period Number and Running the Clock

To set the period number, click on the box. The number will change with every click. The program can record up to four overtimes, noted as OT1, OT2, etc. If you miss the period number desired, keep clicking to cycle back through the numbers.

To start and stop the clock, simply click on the clock button.

Optional Clock

Swoosh! contains many features that are not necessary to the proper operation of the program. One of these features is the time clock. If you prefer to know what time in the game a statistic was recorded, the time clock may be used. This feature is not required. The period number also does not need to be used; however, most users prefer to use this option to keep track of scoring by period and by half.

Entering the Statistics

To enter a statistic for a player, first click on the player’s number button in the appropriate team from the main screen. Then, select the statistic button that you want to enter for that player.

  • Def Reb – Defensive Rebound
  • Off Reb – Offensive Rebound
  • Made FT – Free throw made
  • Miss FT - Free throw missed
  • Foul – Personal or technical foul
  • Assist, Block, Steal – Assist, block, steal
  • TO – Turnover
  • Make – After clicking the number of the player, click this button and the area on the court where the shot was made. A red X will appear and the score will be recorded.
  • Miss - After clicking the number of the player, click this button and the area on the court where the shot was taken. A red O will appear and the score will not change.

Highlighted Buttons
When a player is selected from the lineup buttons or a made or missed shot is selected, the buttons will stay highlighted. This will save time if, for example, two shots are made in a row because the Make button will remain highlighted. If the same player misses a shot, rebounds, and makes a shot, the player’s number will remain highlighted and will not need to be reselected.
Last Stat
Whenever a statistics it is noted on the main screen. This serves as confirmation that the statistic was correctly entered.

Making Substitutions

When a player is taken out of a game and substituted for another, you must change your roster of players in the game. To do this, click on Sub in the menu bar. Check the boxes for the players that are in the game by clicking on the appropriate boxes and remove the players who are out by deselecting the appropriate boxes.

For a large number of substitutions on one team, you may select Bench All. This will deselect all players for that team and allow you to select the new players in the game.

Click OK to return to the main screen.

Save Often
Be sure to save the game often by clicking Game in the menu bar of the main screen and selecting Save Game. This is a good idea during time-outs, free-throws, and period breaks.
